Episode #7: nutrition, the ABC of almost everything

Javi Guerrero

Nutritionists have a superpower: they read beyond the data and turn it into plans that help us perform better.

Today we are lucky enough to have two of these nutrition superheroes on the podcast.

Back to the basics.

Back to the beginning.

Where it all started: the ABC of nutrition.

Have you wondered whether nutrition and eating mean the same thing? They sound related, and you may have used them interchangeably. Is that correct?

Our guest addresses this and other common questions. She is a special collaborator and an important member of INDYA: Estela Barberá, sports nutritionist, former national-team gymnast, current national aerobic gymnastics team coach and international judge.

As a nutritionist and former elite gymnast, Estela understands the importance of nutrition for every athlete’s sporting performance.

Today we explore the basics: useful pieces of knowledge to help you understand the effect of each food on your body.

Joined by Javi Guerrero and Clara Montesinos, she discusses:

  • Macronutrients: what are carbohydrates, proteins and fats, and what do they do in the body?
  • Speaking of fats, what types are there and what does each do? Should we avoid trans fats?
  • What are micronutrients? How do they differ from macronutrients?
  • How does the body obtain energy? What are empty calories?
  • Animal versus plant protein: which is better for you?
  • Why does a personalised diet matter? How does it help us reach performance goals?

If this sounds confusing, do not worry. We explain it step by step in episode seven of Empieza un reto, the INDYA podcast.

INDYA integrates with Intervals.icu: training and nutrition connected

The integration allows INDYA to incorporate information from workouts recorded in Intervals.icu, such as training time, estimated energy expenditure and the effort level of each session. This data can then be used alongside the athlete’s training history to personalize their nutritional plan.
